OAKLAND OVERCOMES ADVERSITY TO EARN 4-3 OVERTIME WIN OVER MILWAUKEE ON SENIOR DAY

Box Score

Recap - MKE
ROCHESTER, Mich.
— The Oakland men's soccer team overcame nearly 60 minutes of shorthanded play to secure a 4-3 overtime victory over Milwaukee on Saturday night at the Oakland Soccer Field. Noah Jensen tallied a match-leading three assists, while Charlie Braithwaite led the offense with a career-high two goals. Sebastian Nuzzo recorded the game-winning Golden Goal in overtime.

Goalkeeper Alessio Carbone had a career-best seven saves, while Reid Sproat scored one goal, and Adam McAleenan added his second assist of the season.

The win extended the Golden Grizzlies unbeaten streak in Horizon League action to seven matches. On the season, Oakland improved to 9-6-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play. OU also clinched a spot in the HL semifinals and kept its hopes for a regular-season championship alive. Cleveland State, 8-2-0 against conference opponents, remains atop of the league with 24 points, while Oakland is merely behind with 22 points.

The Panthers (7-7-1, 5-3-1HL) started hot with five shots, including two on target, in the opening fifteen minutes of the league contest. However, Finn Jurak gobbled up two saves in the span to keep the visiting Panthers off the scoreboard. OU's Dawsun Schrum came close to reaching the back of the net at the 25-minute mark with a header on goal, but the shot was saved.

Braithwaite drew a Milwaukee foul in the 32nd minute, earning a free kick for the Golden Grizzlies. Sproat took advantage of the opportunity by scoring off a cross by Jensen to put Oakland in front, 1-0. Three minutes later, Jurak was handed a red card, reducing OU's lineup to 10 players for the remainder of the match.

At the 36-minute mark, Braithwaite connected on a goal off Jensen's second assist of the match, increasing OU's advantage to 2-0. The Panthers answered back with a goal in the 39th minute to reduce their deficit to one. The score remained 2-1 in favor of Oakland for the rest of the half.

Milwaukee's Logan Farrington delivered a strike for the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Braithewaite's special day continued as he delivered a strike to the back of the net thanks to assists from Adam McAleenan and Jensen at the 68-minute mark. In the ensuing minutes, the Panthers threatened with several shots and eventually tied the match at 3-all in the 85th minute. Schrum rattled a shot just wide of the net seconds before the half ended.

In overtime, goalkeeper Alessio Carbone made a key save in the 93rd minute to keep the matchup tied. A minute later, Nuzzo fired off multiple shots, with his second going into the back of the net for the game-winner.

The Golden Grizzlies will conclude the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Northern Kentucky.
