DETROIT, Mich. — Oakland defeated Detroit Mercy 3-2 after a goal from Alexa Sabbagh in overtime.
Oakland struck first in the 11th minute after Sabbagh gathered a ball in the corner and then play a ball back to Sami Lopez who rifled it home. Detroit Mercy retaliated eight minutes later to tie up the game until the second half.
Detroit Mercy added another goal in the 59th minute. Ten minutes later, Ashley Postma passed the ball to Macey Wierenga, and Vera Asare tapped it into the bottom left, making this her second goal of the season. With just over a minute left in the first half of golden goal overtime, . and Sabbagh got the ball off a Detroit Mercy header and snuck on a breakaway to slip it past the keeper.
Oakland finished the regular season 9-1-1, marking the first time since 2012-13 that Oakland has had back-to-back winning seasons.
When entering the game tonight, Ashley Postma tied the school record for most games played with 84.
