MEN’S SOCCER TAKES DOWN LOUISVILLE, 2-1

Recap - LU
LOUISVILLE, Ky.
Mikey Ketteman and Owen Smith scored goals two minutes apart in the first half to propel the Oakland men's soccer program to a 2-1 victory over Louisville on Tuesday night at Lynn Stadium. The win extended the Golden Grizzlies win streak to a season-high four games.

Noah Jensen added his team-leading seventh assist of the year on Ketteman's score. Goalkeeper Finn Jurak totaled a match-best five saves in the victory, which tied his season-high in the category. Four of the saves occurred in the second half.

The Cardinals (9-5-0, 4-2-0ACC) came into the non-conference matchup ranked 29th in the Division I Men's Soccer RPI and nearly perfect at 8-1 in home games. Louisville had outscored opponents 23-1 in its last six home contests, including shutouts over nationally-ranked Wake Forest, Boston College, and North Carolina. To add, the Cardinals ranked first nationally in scoring offense, averaging 2.77 goals per game.

Despite the offensive prowess of both programs, the defenses showed up early on, as neither team fired off a shot in the first 12 minutes of play. Ketteman ended the offensive spell with a shot on goal at the 13-minute mark of the contest. However, Louisville goalkeeper Detre Bell corralled the save to keep things scoreless.

Ketteman got the Golden Grizzlies (7-5-2, 5-1-1HL) on the board in the 18th minute after taking a feed from Jensen and finding the back of the net for his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Two minutes later, Owen Smith added his second goal of the year to put OU in front, 2-0. The Cardinals answered back with a goal just before halftime, in the 44th minute, to reduce their deficit to 2-1.

Both squads tallied shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but each goalkeeper did their part to keep the score intact. Louisville rattled off 14 shots in the period, but Jurak and company kept the home squad off the scoreboard. Jurak sealed the victory with a pair of clutch saves in the 84th and 89th minutes.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to Horizon League action on Saturday, Oct. 23, at IUPUI.
