
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Owen Smith scored his first goal of the season and added an assist while
Mikey Ketteman scored the game-winning goal off assists from
Robbie Cleary and
Kai Garvey as Oakland rolled by past Green Bay 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Oakland Soccer Field.
Dylan Borzak also added his third goal of the season,
Charlie Braithwaite added his first assist while
Noah Jensen secured his team-best sixth assist helping the Golden Grizzlies remain unbeaten over their last three league matches.
Oakland (5-5-2, 4-1-1HL) opened the first half with quality chances but had three goals disallowed due to offsides calls. The Golden Grizzlies finally broke through as Braithwaite took the ball from Jensen deep down the left side and sent a cross into the box where Smith made a diving strike to score with just 16 seconds left in the half for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Golden Grizzlies withstood early pressure from Green Bay (1-8-3, 0-5-1HL) to maintain the lead. Cleary and Garvey entered the game and made an immediate impact as Cleary took a pass from Garvey into the box and flipped a cross over to Ketteman who connected on a header into the back of the net in the 72nd minute.
The Golden Grizzlies added an insurance goal in the 87th minute and Smith hit a shot that deflected off a Green Bay defender right to Borczak who delivered a strike past Phoenix goalkeeper Jan Tobias for a 3-0 lead.
Green Bay got on the board in the 89th minute as Ezau Millan hit a long-range shot into the upper 90.
Oakland continues Horizon League play at Wright State on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
