WIGHTMAN SURPASSES 2,000 CAREER DIGS IN COMEBACK WIN AT IUPUI

Recap
ROCHESTER, Mich.
— Fifth-year senior Lindsay Wightman became the sixth individual in Horizon League history to surpass 2,000 career digs, as the Oakland University volleyball program escaped an early deficit to down IUPUI (24-26, 25-21, 27-25, 25-22) Tuesday night at The Jungle.

The win was OU's (12-7, 6-2 HL) third-straight come-from-behind victory, while the Jaguars (2-18, 0-9 HL) endured their 15th-straight loss.

Graduate senior Jamie Walling enjoyed an all-around performance, as she totaled a match-leading 17 kills to go along with 15 digs, four blocks, and three service aces. Her marks in digs and aces matched season-highs. Senior Brittany Welch contributed to the attack with 12 kills, while redshirt freshman Patti Cesarini was close behind with eight spikes. A pair of junior setters in AnnaBelle Tomei and Madison Ross combined for 41 of Oakland's 45 assists in the contest.

Wightman helped out with 13 digs and added two aces. Needing four digs to reach 2,000 in her career, the native of nearby Lake Orion, Mich., reached the milestone in the first set. Freshman Emily Wichmann continued her impressive play with 11 digs and two aces. Senior Jessica Riedl controlled the IUPUI attack with a match-best six blocks.

The first set between the two programs featured 13 ties and six lead changes. The period was tied at 19-all, but the Golden Grizzlies went on a 3-0 run to take a 22-19 advantage. IUPUI answered back with a 7-2 run to earn a 26-24 opening-set victory. The Jaguar attack made a difference in the period with 15 kills and a .294 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, OU hit .185 with 11 kills and six errors.

Oakland and IUPUI exchanged leads in the following set, as neither team led by more than four points. Once again, the period was tied late, 21-21. However, the Golden Grizzlies had the final say with a 4-0 run, resulting in a 25-21 win to even the match at one set apiece. Walling was a difference-maker with five kills, seven digs, and two blocks.

The Jaguars raced out to a commanding 12-3 advantage in the third set. Despite Oakland inching its deficit to two points on multiple occasions, IUPUI reached its set point up 24-21. Once again, the Golden Grizzlies caught momentum at the right time, as they closed the set on a 6-1 run, which clinched a 27-25 win. Walling and Welch combined for nine of OU's 14 kills in the period. Riedl found rhythm defensively with three blocks.

The Golden Grizzlies exploded to an 11-5 start in the fourth set, which proved too much for the Jaguars to overcome. The finishing result was a match-deciding 25-22 set win. Oakland limited IUPUI to 11 kills and a .050 hitting percentage while tallying 3.0 team blocks in the period.

OU will continue its road swing at Northern Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 15. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
