
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Breanne Beatty posted a career-high 15 pts going 5-for-8 from the field hitting a career-best three 3-pointers in the first half while
Alona Blackwell added 12 points as Oakland fell 72-57 at Youngstown State on Saturday night to split the weekend series.
Kahlaijah Dean added six points,
Breanna Perry had five points with three blocks defensively while
Chloe Guingrich and
Kayla Luchenbach chipped in with four points each. Beatty, Dean and
Brianna Breedy also dished out three assists each.
After falling behind 20-11 in the first quarter, Beatty's second 3-ball capped off a 9-0 run to tie the game at 20-20 while holding YSU scoreless for over five minutes in the second. Blackwell then added another 3-pointer to pull within a point at the half at 31-30. Overall, the Golden Grizzlies went 6-of-13 (46.2%) from downtown for the half to remain within striking distance.
The third quarter proved to be Oakland's undoing as YSU opened the frame on a 9-4 run to move ahead and never looked back scoring 24 points while holding Oakland to 13 points for a 12 point advantage entering the fourth quarter, 55-43.
YSU then opened the fourth quarter outscoring Oakland at a 16-9 clip to take a 70-51 lead en route to securing the Pengiun's first win of the season. After the hot shooting from 3-point range in the first half, Oakland went 0-for-8 in the second half.
Oakland concludes their four-game road swing with a pair of Metro Series games at arch-rival Detroit Mercy beginning on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m.
