
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Kahlaijah Dean posted her first double-double of the season scoring a game-high 14 points with a career-high 12 rebounds, six assists and career-best three blocks while
Chloe Guingrich and
Sydney Gouard added 11 and 10 points respectively coming off the bench as Oakland held off Purdue Fort Wayne, 58-49, on Friday to win their third straight game after trailing at the half.
Breanna Perry and
Autumn Kissman also added six points each.
Oakland (7-7, 7-4 HL) took care of the basketball, dishing out 20 assists (14 in the second half) while turning the ball over 10 times.
Defensively, the Golden Grizzlies did a great job disrupting Purdue Fort Wayne (0-13, 0-11 HL) shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks while holding the Mastodons to only six fourth-quarter points.
After trailing 32-25 at the half, Oakland came out of halftime on fire, going on a 12-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Kissman, to grab a 37-32 lead with 6:15 to go in the third.
Before the conclusion of the third period, the Mastodons had cut into that lead, but the Golden Grizzlies still entered the fourth quarter with a 44-43 edge. Oakland played well near the basket, scoring 12-of-19 points in the paint.
The Mastodons proceeded to tie things up at 49-49 before Oakland went on a 9-0 run to seize a 58-49 lead with 12 seconds to go in the contest, a score which held for the rest of the game. Oakland took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Oakland went on a 10-0 run with 6:45 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Gouard, to take a 10-2 lead. The Golden Grizzlies then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 13-11.
The Golden Grizzlies are back in action for the series finale on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
