MEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK: JAN. 21

PRO ALUMS
Kendrick Nunn stepped up with 28 points, eight rebounds, and five assists off the bench in Miami's 111-102 win over the Toronto Raptors. The '18 alum has averaged 23.0 points on 63% shooting along with 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in his last two games. 

Jalen Hayes exploded for a game-high 31 points and 14 rebounds in the Cheshire Phoenix's 92-87 win against the Surrey Scorchers. The third-year pro is averaging 15.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals through nine games in the 2020-21 BBL season. 

Xavier Hill-Mais has impressed in his first season of professional basketball with BC Novosybirsk in the Russia Superleague 1. The former Oakland standout (2015-20) leads Novosybirsk in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game and is second on his team in points per game (13.9). 

PLAYER RECOGNITION
Junior point guard Jalen Moore garnered his first-career Nike® #HLMBB Player of the Week. The Cloverdale, Ind. native posted consecutive double-doubles en route to averaging 24.5 points, 13.0 assists, and 3.5 steals to help lead Oakland to a weekend sweep over YSU. He became the second Golden Grizzly to collect the accolade, as Rashad Williams won the award in back-to-back weeks earlier this season. 

Daniel Oladapo has transformed into one of Oakland's most consistent players in his second year as a starter with Golden Grizzlies. The numbers speak for themselves, as the junior forward is averaging a double-double in conference play.  


WEEKEND RESULTS 
GAME 1 - W, 82-65
Moore and Oladapo each recorded double-doubles to help Oakland to an 82-65 win over YSU in the series opener. The Golden Grizzlies displayed a balance scoring attack, as four players scored in double figures, led by Moore, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 14 assists. Williams tacked on 18 points and a season-high four assists, while Trey Townsend chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals. Oladapo rounded out double-digit scorers with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Oakland tallied a season-high 25 assists in the victory as well. 

GAME 2  - W, 81-74
Moore continued his dominance by totaling 31 points, 12 assists, and four steals in the come-from-behind home victory. Once again, the Golden Grizzlies had four players score in double-figures, led by Moore, who notched his third-straight double-double. Parrish added 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting, six rebounds, and two blocks, while Oladapo chipped in as well with 11 points, eight rebounds, and one block.

The Oakland men's basketball team welcomes conference foe, Detroit Mercy, to the Athletics Center O'rena on Jan. 22-23 at 7 p.m. (Friday) and 5 p.m. (Saturday). Fans can watch both games on ESPN+ along with Saturday's game on TV20 Detroit. Neal Ruhl (play-by-play) and Dan Waterstradt (analyst) will call the Metro Series.
