Jalen Moore was named Nike® #HLMBB Player of the Week for the first time in his career, as the Horizon League announced its men's basketball weekly awards Monday afternoon.
Moore posted consecutive double-doubles en route to averaging 24.5 points, 13.0 assists, and 3.5 steals to help lead the Golden Grizzlies to a weekend sweep over the Youngstown State Penguins. The junior point guard started the series by totaling 18 points on just nine shot attempts, along with a career-high 14 assists and three steals in a 82-65 home victory. Moore continued his strong play into the next game, as he scored a game-high 31 points and notched 12 assists and four steals. The native of Cloverdale, Ind. scored 16 of his 19 second-half points in the final seven minutes of the period to propel Oakland to a come-from-behind 81-74 win. Moore reached the free throw line a series-high 21 times and converted on 18 of his attempts. He committed a mere six turnovers compared to 26 assists on the weekend as well.
On the season, Moore leads OU in points per game (18.6), assists per game (7.6), steals per game (2.1), free throw attempts (131), free throws made (97), and minutes per game (36:17). The Cloverdale, Ind. native has started 16-straight games and finds himself atop NCAA Division I rankings in several individual categories such as total assists (130), free throw attempts, free throw makes, and total minutes (616:55). To add, Moore is third nationally in assists per game, fifth nationally in total points (316), and sixth nationally in total steals (36).
