
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Ava Thielman,
Darya Maltseva and
Aarja Chakraborty each won in singles play helping Oakland edge Eastern Michigan, 4-3, on Friday at the Chippewa Racquet Club. The Golden Grizzlies are now 3-2 against schools from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) this season.
During doubles action,
Samantha Galloway and
Alexandra Whall had no trouble shutting out Morgan Ingram and Emma-Lou Pommiers (6-0) at the No. 3 spot. After EMU won at the No. 2 position, it came down to Thielman and
Victoria Kurz who outlasted Marie Mayerova and Julia Piatek (6-4) at No. 1 position to secure the doubles point and move ahead 1-0.
In singles play, Thielman downed Mayerova (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 1 spot while Maltseva took out Isabelle Popma (6-4, 6-2) at No. 3 followed by Chakraborty who rolled past Ingram (6-1, 6-0) to secure the match.
Oakland travels to Bowling Green on Friday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
