SPARTANBURG, South Carolina - Oakland University softball opened the Upstate Classic Tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a 6-1 win over Buffalo. The Golden Grizzlies tallied five runs in the final two innings to pull away. 

Redshirt sophomore Cammie Brummit went 2-of-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Oakland. Sophomore Lauren Griffith opened the year with a multi-hit game, going 2-of-4 with a run. Six different Golden Grizzlies notched a hit, as Oakland turned eight hits into six runs. 

In the circle, freshman Sydney Campbell threw a complete game in her collegiate debut, giving up just one earned run and striking out four Bulls. 

Hannah Bardeen's second-inning home run represented Buffalo's offense. With one out and the game tied at 0-0, Bardeen sent one over the left field wall. 

Redshirt sophomore Madison Jones brought the score even in the fourth, opening the frame with a triple to right. Jones came home on a wild pitch on the ensuing batter. 

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Golden Grizzlies mounted a two-out rally in the sixth to pull away from the Bulls. Brummitt singled to short to start the rally. A Griffith single and error at third base brought one runner home and put two on base for sophomore Kayla Gibson. Gibson doubled to right to put Oakland up 4-1. 

A walk and hit by pitch put a pair of runners on early in the top of the seventh for the Golden Grizzlies. Brummitt added insurance with a two-run double to center field. 

Oakland plays two games on Saturday, February 15. The Golden Grizzlies open the day against South Carolina - Upstate at 3 p.m., followed by Massachusetts at 5 p.m.
