
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Brianna Breedy posted a career-high 16 points hitting a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc while going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line to lead Oakland to a series sweep over UIC in Horizon League play on Sunday afternoon.
Chloe Guingrich and
Alona Blackwell each reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Kahlaijah Dean added eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds along with
Autumn Kissman.
Sydney Gouard had seven points with seven rebounds while freshman
Lamariyee Williams recorded her first collegiate points chipping in with six.
Kayla Luchenbach also added six points while
Jalisha Terry and Kissman each had five points.
After taking a 34-23 lead at the half, the third quarter proved to be the difference as Oakland (2-2, 2-0 HL) opened the frame on a 14-5 run to move ahead by 20 points at 48-28. Overall, the Golden Grizzlies outscored UIC (1-4, 0-2 HL) 32-16 going 11-for-24 (52.4%) from the field, 4-for-9 (44.4%) from 3-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe to blow the game open with a commanding 66-39 lead.
Defensively, Oakland recorded 26 points off 20 UIC turnovers. The Golden Grizzlies also held a 40-26 points in the paint advantage.
Oakland continues league play with a two-game set at Wright State beginning on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
