ROCHESTER, MICH. - The Oakland women's basketball team had three players in double figures led by Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team selection
Kahlaijah Dean with 12 points followed by
Jalisha Terry and
Kayla Luchenbach with 10 points each as the Golden Grizzlies fell in the season home opener, 95-62, to No. 25 Michigan on Friday night.
Alona Blackwell also added eight points while
Brianna Breedy dished out a team-high four assists.
The first quarter set the tone for the game as Oakland (0-1) got off to a slow start while Michigan (2-0) was hitting on all cylinders sparked by Preseason Big Ten Co-Player of the Year Naz Hillmon who scored the Wolverines' first 10 points of the game and 19 total in the quarter en route to a game-high 35.
After U-M scored 34 first-quarter points, Oakland held the Wolverines to 18 points in the second but their cold shooting continued only scoring seven points to fall behind 52-26 at the break.
The Golden Grizzlies' offense picked up in the second half posting 36 points on 50 percent shooting but could not cut into the large deficit as U-M scored 52 total points in the paint and grabbed 53 rebounds.
Oakland will look to rebound at Toledo on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.
