ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's basketball squad opens its 2020-21 campaign at the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, Nov. 25-27. The Golden Grizzlies tip-off against Xavier from the Cintas Center on the first nationally televised game of the year. Wednesday's game will begin at noon and broadcast on FS1.
Oakland will play Toledo on Thursday and will round out the tournament tipping off against Bradley. Both games are slated for 3:15 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloSports.
Head coach
Greg Kampe enters his 37th season at the helm of the Golden Grizzlies and is the third most tenured active coach at one school behind Duke's Mike Krzyzewksi (41 seasons) and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (45 seasons).

> The Golden Grizzlies return one lone senior to this year's squad in
Kevin Kangu. Kangu appeared in all 33 games last season, making 18 starts, leading Oakland in assists (114) and averaging 5.1 ppg
> Oakland added seven newcomers to the 2020-21 squad, including two transfers in
Zion Young (Western Illinois), and
Jalen Moore (Olney Central College)
> Oakland was picked to finish sixth in the 2020-21 Horizon League Men's Basketball Preseason Poll announced by the league office. The preseason poll was voted on by the league's head coaches, media members, and men's basketball media contacts throughout the league
> Oakland will take on a condensed seven-game non-conference schedule, all of which will be road games. The Golden Grizzlies open with the first nationally televised game of the 2020 college basketball season at Xavier on Nov. 25. As part of the Xavier Invitational, the Golden Grizzlies will also take on Toledo (11/26) and Bradley (11/27).
> The Golden Grizzlies will face four-straight Power-5 schools in Michigan (11/29), Purdue (12/1), Oklahoma State (12/5) and Michigan State (12/13) to round out non-conference play
> Kampe joined the Oakland University team in 1984 after spending six seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Toledo (1978-1984). Oakland had only six winning seasons in 16 years of competition before his arrival.
