Keith Benson has been named to the Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor class of 2020. Benson was a member of the Oakland men's basketball team from 2007-2011.Â

The Farmington Hills, Mich. native earned 2011 College Insider All-American, 2010 Mid-Major All-American and 2010 and 2011 AP All-American Honorable Mention.

Benson also was awarded the 2010 Lou Henson Award, which is awarded to the country's best mid-major player.Â

Benson enjoyed a successful career for the Golden Grizzlies and holds program records for career defensive rebounds (772), career blocked shots (371) and career double-doubles (49).Â

The three-time Summit League All-Tournament Team honoree is a two-time Summit League Player of the Year (2010, '11).  After being selected in the second round (48th Pick) of the 2011 NBA Draft, Benson became the first player in program history to be drafted to the NBA.Â

Benson is currently in his ninth year playing professionally. During this time, he has earned D-League first team honors, defensive team honors, and was a two-time D-League All-Star.

What does being inducted to the Hall of Honor mean to you?
It means a lot to me to be recognized and remembered as a student athlete here forever, I never imagined when I decided to come here that this would be the outcome.  Â

What does Oakland mean to you?
Oakland was a great match for me as a university close to home that I helped bring more attention to and also helped me be seen by the worldÂ

What is your favorite Oakland memory?
My favorite memory here is winning our conference championship in 2010 that allowed us to go to the NCAA tournament because it had been some years since the grizzlies attended and it felt great to finally get over that hump and get some national attention for our school and be on March madness brackets across the world.

What does your sport mean to you?
Basketball means a lot to me it allowed me to see the world and has exposed me to many great things and experiences.

What did you do after your Oakland experience?
I was drafted in the NBA draft and went on to play professional basketball, I have played for the Golden State Warriors, as well as in the G League and overseas in Italy, the Philippines, China, Belarus, Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, Japan and Australia.
This year's induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac beginning at 6 p.m.Â
