ROCHESTER, Michigan - Oakland University Men's Basketball freshman guard
Blake Lampman was named the Nike #HLMBB Freshman of the week announced the league office on Monday, January 13. Lampman averaged 12 points per game, hitting a team-best seven triples last week.
Lampman finished Oakland's road trip through Ohio as the Golden Grizzlies' second-leading scorer with 24 total points. He knocked down 58-percent of his attempts from beyond the arc, hitting seven of 12 triples.
Lampman has recorded three or more triples in eight games this season and in three-consecutive games.
Against Cleveland State on January 11, it was Lampman's defense that played a major role in sealing the Golden Grizzlies' 68-55 win. With 2:31 to play, leading by seven, the Vikings had a fast break that the Haslett native stepped in front of and took the charge. The play led into a bucket from senior Xavier Hill-Mais and saw Oakland's lead extend to 13 by the final horn.
This is Lampman's second conference plaudit of the season. He earned the same honor on December 31 after going 4-of-9 from range with a career-high five assists against Detroit Mercy.
Sophomore Daniel Oladapo earned Horizon League Player of the Week honors on November 11.
Next up for Oakland is a trip to Wisconsin for a pair of league contests against Green Bay on Thursday, January 16, and Milwaukee on Saturday, January 18.
