OAKLAND BATTLES BUT COMES UP SHORT ON LATE GOAL TO DEPAUL

Golden Grizzlies outshoot Blue Demons 21-6

9-24-19 vs DePaul Final Graphic: Oakland 0, DePaul 1

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
Noah Jensen, Dylan Borczak, AJ Shaw, and Luke Morrell each recorded a shot on goal as Oakland battled outshooting DePaul 21-6 but it was not enough as the Blue Demons scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to edge the Golden Grizzlies 1-0 at the Childhood Cancer Awareness Game on Tuesday night at the Oakland Soccer Field. Team IMPACT cancer survivor Alex VanHolder dressed with the team and was announced in the starting line up prior to game.

After the game remained scoreless heading into the final five minutes, Oakland (4-3-1) had a great opportunity as Borczak connected on a diving header off a cross and just pushed it wide pass the outstretched arms of DePaul (4-3-1) keeper Drew Nulle in the 84th minute.

However, the Blue Demons would capitalize off a corner kick set piece just three minutes later as Zach El-Shafei headed the ball in off a feed from Youssef Ramadan.

Oakland regrouped and pressed the attack deep in the DePaul end drawing a foul in the 88th minute. With the clock ticking down, Evan Sawula sent in a cross off a free kick that made its way across the box right to Michael Teller who connected on a header that beat Nulle but rang off the near post just before time expired.

Oakland resumes Horizon League play with a Metro Series showdown against arch-rival Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
