ROCHESTER, Mich. –The Oakland women's soccer team fell to Michigan State 2-0 Sunday from the Oakland Soccer Field in front of 1,053 fans during its annual legacy and alumni day presented by Ascension Providence Rochester.Â
Sunday's attendance was the second highest in program history, the first being when the two squads met back in 2015 in front of 1,157.

Alexa Sabbagh each recorded two shots, one on goal to lead the Golden Grizzlies.Â

Oakland (2-4-1) outplayed Michigan State in the first half, taking five shots and tallying four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.Â

MSU (7-1) connected on one of its three shots in the first half in the 18th
 minute off a deflection from a header to put the Spartans up 1-0.Â

Both teams remained scoreless for the next 68 minutes of play with a very physical back and forth battle. With just five minutes left to play, MSU put another one in the back of the net.
Oakland honored past women's soccer players at half time in conjunction to the program's 25th year celebration.

The Golden Grizzlies open Horizon League play at home Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against Youngstown State for LGBTQIA+ Pride Night sponsored by Oakland University Credit Union.
