
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Rachel Levy and
Connor Goetz were each crowned champions at the 19
th annual Golden Grizzlies Open setting new course records in the process. Levy ran the women's 4k in a time of 14:04.5, more than 40 seconds ahead of her runner-up and Goetz crossed the finish line with a time of 18:47.6.
The men's and women's cross country teams both finished in first place overall with 15 points each. It was a dominating performance from both teams as the Oakland women placed runners first through 15th in the race while the men occupied the first 12 finishing spots.
Ashley Vican and
Connor Wuori each finished runner-up with times of 14:50.5 and 18:59.3 respectively.
Heather Czarnecki,
Maddi Leigh and
Megan Nichols finished third through fifth for the women and
Brad Mallory,
Shawn Slater and
Landon Melling claimed third through fifth for the men.
Oakland will take two weeks off from competition returning Friday, Sept. 13 to compete in the Michigan State Auto Owners/Playmakers Spartan Invitation in East Lansing at 11 a.m.
