OAKLAND WOMEN'S SOCCER ANNOUNCES 2019 SCHEDULE

The Golden Grizzlies will host 10 matches including Notre Dame, Michigan State and rival Detroit Mercy

2019 women's soccer schedule

ROCHESTER, Mich. –
Oakland women's soccer Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero announced the 2019 schedule which features 10 home matches.

"We are very excited about our fall schedule and the upcoming season," Favero said. "We want to build on the great finish to our 2018 season and while we have very tough non-league games to help us prepare for Horizon League, we know our team is in a good place and are ready to take on the challenge."

The Golden Grizzlies will open the 2019 campaign with back-to-back home exhibition matches Wednesday, Aug. 14 against Bowling Green at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 17 versus Utah Valley at 7 p.m.

"Our student-athletes and coaches, as well as parents and fans are looking forward to our home portion of our schedule with some really big games both in and out of league, but our approach will continue to be to take one game at a time," Favero said. "Our team has learned to understand that every single home and road game is critically important and an opportunity to perform at our highest level as we pursue excellence."

Regular season play begins on the road for the Golden Grizzlies when they open up at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m.

Oakland welcomes Eastern Kentucky in its home opener Thursday, Aug. 29 and will go on to host Notre Dame (9/8) and Michigan State (9/15).

Youngstown State will begin Horizon League play at the Oakland Soccer field for the Golden Grizzlies (9/20), followed by league rival Detroit Mercy (10/2).

The Golden Grizzlies will celebrate senior day in the last home game of the season against reigning league champion Milwaukee, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.

In its last 10 games of the 2018 campaign, Oakland went 4-2-4, including a 3-0-1 mark to conclude the season. The Golden Grizzlies ended the year on a 1-1 draw to No. 1 seed Milwaukee which led to a 4-2 loss in PK's in the Horizon League semifinals.

"We can't wait for the team to report in a couple of weeks and look forward to a season full of new opportunities," Favero said.
