Marc Norton and
Chris Handy have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for the 2018-19 season.
Handy, a rising senior with a 3.65 grade-point average (GPA) in finance, was an All-Horizon League First Team selection during his junior campaign. He led the team with a 73.62 scoring average and was the No. 1 ranked player in the Horizon League individual rankings. Handy registered a team-best four top-10 finishes on the season including a runner-up finish at the Dayton Flyer Invite. He set a career best by recording eight rounds under par and finished the season ranking fourth in Oakland's career stroke average at 74.38.
Norton, who graduated with a 3.42 GPA and a degree in psychology, was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament team after finishing tied for fourth with a score of 221 (+5) at the league championship. He appeared in 23 rounds and had a stroke average of 74.74. Norton ranked ninth in the Horizon League individual rankings and finished his career ranking 10th in Oakland's career stroke average at 75.02.
A record 540 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the award's inception in 1982. Out of the 540 honorees, 266 players were Division I selections.
To be eligible for the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status in Division I, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, participate in 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
