
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Oakland Softball team split their doubleheader with the Broncos of Western Michigan, dropping game 15-3 and bouncing back and winning game two 7-2.
The Golden Grizzlies got off to a hot start in game one scoring three runs in the first two innings, thanks to a two-run home run from
Kelsie Swanson. Swanson hit her first home run of the season in game one of the Green Bay series over the weekend.
Western Michigan would hang right with Oakland, scoring one run in each of the first two innings before pulling away in the third, scoring seven runs and adding six more in the fourth to end the game in five innings.
Along with Swanson,
Jessie Munson,
Mikayela Marciniak,
Brittney Miller,
Shannon Carr and
Kayla Gibson each added a hit.
In game two, Oakland bounced back with
Emily Karas on the mound, who would check off her third win of the season pitching a full 7.0 innings giving up only two runs and allowing only one walk.
Both
Kelsie Swanson and
Mikayela Marciniak would record two hits in the contest while
Lauren Griffith,
Shannon Carr,
Rachel Zerona each would tally hits. In addition,
Arieanna Grammatico chalked up her first collegiate hit, which also earned her an RBI.
Kelsie Swanson knocked in the first run for Oakland in the second inning, doubling down the left field line to score both
Hannah Chadwell and Carr.
Lauren Griffith would add an RBI single in the third before Chadwell walked with the bases loaded, picking up an RBI for herself. Following the walk was Grammatico's RBI single.
Oakland would add two more runs in the fifth, scoring two off of an error by the Bronco defense.
Oakland will play in their last regular season doubleheader Saturday, May 4 as they take on Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne in Fort Wayne, Ind. at 1:30 pm and 4 pm.
