CHICAGO - Andrew Hoffmann picked up his second win of the season going 7.0 innings allowing only two unearned runs on four scattered hits with four strikeouts while
Blake Griffith accounted for all of Oakland's runs going 2-for-4 with three RBI as the Golden Grizzlies held off UIC in game one, 3-2, to win the series on Saturday.
Austin Sherry also locked down his third save. The Flames took game two, 7-1, to split the doubleheader.
Matt DiLeo hit 3-for-4 with a run while
Ronnie Krsolovic and
Mike McGee each added a hit.
After UIC (18-15, 11-6 HL) took a 1-0 lead in the first, Griffith delivered a two-run single scoring
Mario Camilletti and
Myles Zilinsky giving Oakland (10-26, 8-10 HL) a 2-1 advantage.
Neither team scored over the next four innings before the Flames tied the game in the top of the sixth. Griffith once again delivered with a RBI single to score DiLeo in the bottom of the frame for a 3-2 lead.
After Hoffmann retired the side in the seventh, Sherry came in and closed the door on the Flames pitching 2.0 scoreless innings to preserve the win.
In game two, Oakland's offense had no answer for UIC started Fred Gosbeth who allowed only two hits total to Krsolovic in the third and
Cherokee LeBeau in the fifth inning.
Trailing 4-1 in the fifth, Krsolovic also reached on a fielder's choice to account for the Golden Grizzlies' only run of the game. UIC went on to add a run in the sixth and two more in the ninth to avoid the series sweep.
Oakland travels to Michigan State on Tue. Apr. 23 at 6:35 p.m.
