NO. 8 OAKLAND'S SEASON COMES TO AN END AT NO. 1 WRIGHT STATE IN MOTOR CITY MADNESS QUARTERFINAL

Jones leads team with 22 points, Guingrich grabs 15 rebounds

DAYTON, Ohio - Taylor Jones closed out her stellar career scoring a team and game-high 22 points with five assists and four rebounds while Chloe Guingrich grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds just missing her career-high of 16 with seven points as No. 1 Wright State used a late third quarter run to down No. 8 Oakland, 83-60, in quarterfinal action of the 2019 Little Caesars Motor City Madness Horizon League Championships. 

Kahlaijah Dean had 13 points with three steals while Autumn Kissman chipped in with nine points. Brianna Breedy also dished out five assists with three steals.

After a competitive first half, Oakland (6-24) battled back cutting the lead to five points on two occasions after the media timeout at 43-38 and 46-41 in the third quarter. However, in the span of just three minutes, WSU (25-6) went on its biggest run of the game with a 18-2 spurt closing out the frame with a commanding 64-44 lead and never looked back. For the quarter, the Raiders shot 11-for-16 (68.8%) compared to 6-of-21 (28.6%) for the Golden Grizzlies. 

With the score at 18-17 in the second quarter, WSU rolled out on a 17-1 run to take a 35-18 lead. Oakland responded with a 8-2 run of their own to trail by 11 entering the halftime break. 

Oakland jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter before WSU went on an 8-0 run to move ahead 10-5. The Golden Grizzlies added the next five points to tie the game at 10-10 and only trailed 16-14 entering the second.
