HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Golden Grizzlies have a habit of scoring in the first inning as
Mikayela Marciniak knocked in
Kelsie Swanson to take an early 1-0 lead over the Norse.
Oakland would go on to score one more in the third and two in the fourth. All of the runs scored aside from the one in the first were all unearned as the Golden Grizzlies took advantage of NKU errors.
Swanson,
Jamie Squires,
Lauren Pletscher and
Rachel Zerona all recorded one hit while Marciniak tallied two.
The pitchers shared the load in game one as Haley Bartholomew pitched 3.1 innings,
Kayla Marburger pitched 1.2 and
Emily Karas, who was charged with the loss, pitched 2.0.
In game two of the evening,
Lauryn Debono pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits, six runs, two walks and struck out seven.
Marciniak got the offense rolling in the second as she singled to left center. She then moved to second and to third on past balls. Marciniak crossed home plate on a
Lauren Griffith single, getting Oakland on the board.
A rally in the fourth allowed Oakland to add three more runs to their score. Squires started out the inning with a single and moved over to second on a Marciniak sac bunt.
Jackie Reitmeyer singled to shortstop, putting runners on the corner. A fly out to center from
Rachel Zerona allowed Squires to tag up and score and then
Kelsie Swanson cleared the bases, hitting her fourth triple of the year.
Squires would launch her third homer of the season in the fifth before being held scoreless through the rest of the game.
The Golden Grizzlies will take on the Norse one more time in the series finale tomorrow at 12 pm.
