
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Golden Grizzlies couldn't seem to get their heavy offense rolling as they were out hit eight hits to two in their game one 4-2 loss and ten hits to eight in their 8-4 loss to Youngstown State to open up Horizon League competition.
In game one of the night, Oakland was held hitless up until the sixth inning when
Kelsie Swanson lasered a ball into right field. It was then that
Lauren Griffith hit her first collegiate home run of her career to put her team up 2-1. However, the Golden Grizzlies defense gave up three runs in the bottom of the inning, including two home runs.
Chelsea Wiggins pitched 5.0 innings, giving up eight hits, four runs and three walks.
Emily Karas came in for 1.0 innings of relief giving up no hits, runs and recorded one strikeout.
After a disappointing loss in game one, Oakland jumped on the board early as
Jessie Munson scored thanks to a
Mikayela Marciniak single and an error on the Penguins. In the same inning
Jamie Squires walked with the bases loaded, adding an RBI.
Oakland would be held scoreless until the sixth inning when
Rachel Zerona would double down the left field line.
Kelsie Swanson followed up with a single up the middle, moving Zerona to third. Swanson stole second, and Marciniak had her second hit of the day, scoring both Zerona and Swanson.
Jessie Munson,
Lauren Griffith, and
Hannah Chadwell each added hits in the game.
The Golden Grizzlies will take on the Penguins in the final game of the series tomorrow at 12 p.m.
