WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Golden Grizzlies offense continued to shine as they out-hit their opponent Stony Brook nine hits to eight, but couldn't get runners across the plate as they fell 5-3 in the Sunday morning match.
Continuing their habit of scoring in the first,
Kelsie Swanson started the game with a single to center eventually moving to second on a sac bunt from
Jessie Munson.
Mikayela Marciniak moved Swanson to third on a ground out to the right side, before
Shannon Carr drove her in with a single to left.
In the bottom of the third,
Brittney Miller added a hit as she doubled down the right field line scoring Munson.
Jamie Squires followed up with a doubled to right, scoring Miller. Stony Brook added three runs in the fifth to take the eventual 5-3 win.
Swanson and Munson each recorded two hits, while Marciniak, Miller, Carr, Squires and
Jackie Reitmeyer added one. The Oakland bullpen tag teamed as
Lauryn Debono pitched two innings,
Chelsea Wiggins tossed 2.1 and
Emily Karas hurled 2.2. Karas was charged with the loss and now holds a 1-2 record.
Oakland will open up league play next weekend, Mar. 22-23 at Youngstown State University.
