
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Golden Grizzlies had hot bats all around as they recorded eight hits in their 8-7 win against Georgetown and nine hits in their 8-7 loss against George Washington.
In game one, it was
Mikayela Marciniak leading the way as she recorded three RBI's on two hits, as well as tallied two runs and one walk. A double from Marciniak in the first put Oakland on the board as she scored
Kelsie Swanson.
Brittney Miller followed up with a single to left to score Marciniak.
Georgetown held the Oakland offense off until the top of the sixth when Swanson and Marciniak got on base, allowing Miller to do what she does best and drive them in.
Down three going into the top of the seventh,
Jessie Munson started the rally for her team as she singled to score
Lauren Pletscher. Marciniak, with ice in her veins followed up with a single, recording two RBI's on the hit to put Oakland up one heading into the bottom of the inning.
The Oakland defense shut down the Hoyas offense going 1-2-3 and sealing the win.
In game two of the evening, Oakland continued their productive offense in the first inning as
Kelsie Swanson singled through the right side and moved to second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt from
Jessie Munson. Marciniak drew a walk and
Brittney Miller singled to right field to load the bases.
Shannon Carr then drove a ball to center, deep enough to allow Swanson to tag up and score, giving the Golden Grizzlies a one run lead over the Colonials.
Swanson added an RBI in the second and Oakland would score on an error in the third. George Washington then strung two runs together in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to one. GWU would score three runs in the fifth as well as the sixth to to take an 8-3 lead.
Lauren Griffith cut the score down to two with one swing of the bat as she drove in three on a double to left center.
Rachel Zerona kept the rally going as she hit a single up the middle, scoring Griffith, but the Colonials fought out of the inning, fending off the threat of the Oakland offense.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action tomorrow morning at 9 am & 1 pm as they will take on Georgetown and George Washington for a second time.
