RICHMOND, Ky. -
Beau Keathley came out on the short end of a pitcher's duel with a strong outing posting seven strikeouts while not allowing a hit through 5.0 of 7.0 total innings of work as Oakland was edged 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. Blake Griffith also hit a three-run home run and single to record five RBI as the Golden Grizzlies fell in a slugfest in game one, 16-10.

After a scoreless five innings in the nightcap, Drew Demumbrum recorded a RBI single to score Matt DiLeo giving Oakland (0-13) a 1-0 lead in the top if the sixth inning. Keathley's first allowed hit of the game was a solo home run which tied the score at 1-1 for Eastern Kentucky (10-5) in the bottom half.

EKU added another solo shot in the eighth to take a 2-1 lead. DiLeo hit a double with two outs in the ninth but was left stranded to end the game.

In game one, Oakland dropped a slugfest which saw the Golden Grizzlies record three hits with three home runs and two triples. In addition to Griffith's three-run homer, DiLeo hit 2-for-2 connecting on his first home run of the season. Myles Zilinsky also hit a two-run shot while Ronnie Krsolovic and Mike McGee each added a RBI triples.

Oakland was able to put runs on the board but could not stop EKU from adding runs in the bottom half of each inning in which the Golden Grizzlies scored. Zilinsky's two-run homer gave Oakland a 2-0 lead in the first but the Colonels matched with three runs and added another one in the second for 4-2 lead.

The Golden Grizzlies tacked on three more runs in the third inning off Krsolovic's and McGee's RBI triples along with a RBI single from Griffith to regain the lead at 5-4.

EKU once again responded in the bottom of the third with two runs and added another in the fourth for a 7-5 advantage. After DiLeo's solo shot pulled the Golden Grizzlies within a run at 7-6 in the fifth, EKU posted six runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth for a 14-6 advantage which proved to be the difference.

Griffith's three-run blast in the seventh and RBI groundout in the ninth was as close as the Golden Grizzlies would get.

Oakland travels to Bowling Green for a non-conference game on Tue., March 12 at 3:05 p.m.
