OAKLAND COMES UP SHORT AGAINST IUPUI BEHIND CAREER-HIGH 28 POINTS FROM TAYLOR JONES

Jones records double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
 Taylor Jones posted her third double-double of the season with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds with three assists and two steals as Oakland battled down the stretch before coming up short against visiting IUPUI, 70-76. Jones now ranks 10th all-time in program history with 1527 career points. 

Kahlaijah Dean added 13 points with three assists while Mercy Agwaniru had four points with two blocks and matched a career-mark with three assist.  

For the second consecutive game, Oakland (5-19, 2-10 HL) shot over fifty percent from the field and matched a season second-best 78.6 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the Golden Grizzlies held IUPUI (16-9, 10-4 HL) to just 2-of-17 (11.8%) from behind the arc.

With the game tied at 60-60 with 6:29 left in the fourth quarter, Macee Williams scored five of the next seven points as IUPUI outscored the Golden Grizzlies 11-4 over the next four minutes to stay ahead for good. Oakland chipped away cutting the deficit to four points, 72-68, with 1:06 remaining but could not get any shots to fall while Holly Hoopingarner hit four straight free throws to seal the game.

After a back and fourth third quarter, Dean hit a step-back 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining giving Oakland a 55-54 lead heading into the fourth.  

Oakland got out to an early lead in the first quarter before IUPUI closed out the frame on a 15-2 run for a 23-15 lead. The Golden Grizzlies responded in the second quarter out scoring the Jags 21-17 to only trail by four at the half, 40-36.

Oakland hosts UIC  for Women in Sports Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m.
