ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's basketball team hosts No. 16/15 Michigan State for the 18th time in program history. For the second time in the series dating back to 1998, the two sides meet at Little Caesars Arena for College Basketball in the D.Â
Saturday's contest features two coaching greats in Greg Kampe and Tom Izzo. Both coaches have amassed more than 600 wins in their storied careers - 623 and 612, respectively. Additionally, Kampe (36th season) and Izzo (25th season) rank third and sixth among longest-active tenured coaches in Division I basketball.

- The first-ever meeting between MSU and OU was on Nov. 17, 1998, on campus at Oakland. Just over 3,400 saw the No.5-ranked Spartans knock off the Golden Grizzlies, 96-66. Michigan State hasn't returned to the O'rena since
- Oakland sits first in the Horizon League in defense, only allowing a league-best 63.5 points per game
- Hill-Mais leads the Golden Grizzlies with 15.9 points per game, fifth in the Horizon League. The redshirt senior joined the 1,000-point club on Dec. 3 at WMU, becoming the 36th player in program history to accomplish the feat
- Hill-Mais leads the Horizon League in three statistical categories through the first 10 games of the season - Defensive Rebounds per Game (6.2), Double-Doubles (3) and FG-percentage (57.3). Hill-Mais has scored in double figures nine of 10 games this season, with his season-high 26 coming at Western Michigan on Dec. 3
- Oakland's roster features seven true freshmen. Five of the seven frosh have seen playing time this season, with Blake Lampman appearing in all 10 games and starting one. Fellow freshman Jackie Harris has also appeared in 10 games this season, averaging 9.2 minutes per game
- After spending time in the G League for the Golden State Warriors, Kendrick Nunn has exploded onto the NBA scene in his rookie season. Nunn his averaging over 30 minutes per game. His 45.2-percent from the floor has powered 16.2 points per game, which ranks third among all NBA rookies. On Dec. 10 against the Atlanta Hawks, Nunn set career highs in points (35) and rebounds (6), coming one point shy of the Miami Heat Rookie record for points in a single-game
- Kevin Kangu was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Sunshine Slam after averaging 12.7 ppg, 5.0 rebs and 6.0 in three games
- Oladapo earned Nike Horizon League Player of the week honors (11/11) after he led the Golden Grizzlies over the course of their four-game week averaging 13.8 points and 7.5 rebounds to guide Oakland to a 3-1 record to start the season
- The Golden Grizzlies return redshirt-senior and First Team All-Horizon League selection Xavier Hill-Mais who averaged 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 2018-19
- Kampe is in his 36th season at the helm of the Golden Grizzlies and is the third-most tenured active coach at one school behind Duke's Mike Krzyzewksi (40 seasons) and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (44 seasons)
- Oakland added 10 newcomers to the 2019-20 squad, including three transfers in Kevin Kangu (Vincennes University), Daniel Oladapo (Chipola College) and Rashad Williams (Cleveland State)
