HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky - Noah Jensen scored his fourth goal of the season as Oakland dropped a 3-1 decision at Northern Kentucky in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon at the NKU Soccer Complex.
Despite the loss, the Golden Grizzlies have locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championships hosted by UIC in Chicago, Ill. next week.
Jensen almost put Oakland on the board first in the 11th minute as he fired a long range shot that beat NKU keeper Baj Maan but hit the right post.
In the 22nd minute,
Spencer Nolff kicked a long ball up to
Charlie Braithwaite who settled the ball and passed it over to Jensen who got behind the last NKU defender just inside the box on the right side. He turned and took an off-balance shot which Maan saved but could not control the rebound which went directly back to Jensen who cashed in putting his second shot right between Maan's legs into the back of the net giving Oakland a 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later,
Dylan Borczak had a great opportunity to give Oakland a 2-0 lead as he fired a shot that beat Maan but hit the crossbar.
After NKU got the equalizer in the 32nd minute,
Adam McAleenan almost converted off back-to-back corner kick chances. On the first, he got the cross from Jensen and placed a shot past Mann that was kicked away by the defender guarding the right post. On the second attempt, he put a header on frame that was turned away from a defender on the left post.
The Norse then got two goals in the 37th and 40th minute respectively en route to the win.
