NO. 6 OAKLAND CONTINUES HORIZON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT WITH SEMIFINAL MATCH AT NO. 1 MILWAUKEE

Golden Grizzlies and Panthers kick off on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. on ESPN+

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The No. 6 seed Oakland women's soccer team continues 2019 Horizon League Tournament play with a semifinal rematch at No. 1 seed Milwaukee on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live from Engelmann Stadium on ESPN+.

MATCH-UP

Earlier this season, Oakland (7-7-3, 4-3-2 HL) played Milwaukee (15-1-1, 8-0-1 HL) to a scoreless double overtime draw (10/27). This marked the first time since Sept. 27, 2017 that Milwaukee hadn't scored a goal in a regular season league game.
Oakland was the only team to earn a point against the Panthers in league play which in turn clinched a spot in the Horizon League Tournament.
In the league tournament semifinals last season, the No. 6 seed Golden Grizzlies pushed No. 1 seed Milwaukee to the limit playing to a 1-1 double overtime draw before eventually falling in penalty kicks to end the season.

NOTES

Sami Lopez scored the game-winning goal and assisted on Nikki May's first goal of the season as No. 6 seed Oakland upset No. 3 seed IUPUI, 2-0, in quarterfinal action on Monday. Alexa Sabbagh also assisted on Lopez's goal while Jaimie Leas posted her fourth shutout of the season.
This marks the second consecutive season Oakland entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed and upset the No. 3 seed. Last season, Oakland stunned No. 3 seed Northern Kentucky, 2-1, in the quarterfinals.
Alexa Sabbagh and Kendra Zak earned All-Horizon League second team honors while Jessica Shears was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, announced by the league office on Monday.
Jaimie Leas posted her fourth shutout of the season against IUPUI, her other clean sheets came against Youngstown State (9/20), IUPUI (10/12) and Milwaukee.
Oakland closed out the regular season with a 2-0 setback at UIC (11/1)
Sabbagh leads the team in points (14) and goals (6) which rank tied for eighth and tied for fifth in the league respectively.
Lopez (13) is second on the team in points and also leads the team in assists (5) and ranks second in goals (3)
Sierra Grodsinsky (3), Kendra Zak (3) and Nikki May (3) rank second on the team in assists flowed by Ashley Postma (2) and Natalie Abbate (2) in third
Taylor Thalheimer (2), Shophie Wilsey (2) and Postma (2) rank third in goals with May (1), Brooklyn Blake (1), Postma (1), Sierra Grodsinsky (1) and Carmela Barro (1) each recording a tally on the season
Blake netted her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 double overtime win against Youngstown State (9/20)
The Golden Grizzlies have already surpassed their goal total from a season ago with 20
Lopez was named Nike Horizon League Player of the Week (9/2) after scoring two goals against Eastern Kentucky including the overtime game-winner
