
MIAMI, Fla. - Jalisha Terry scored a team-high 13 points going 8-for-10 from the free throw line while
Chloe Guingrich and
Autumn Kissman each added 10 points helping Oakland snap a two-game skid with a 58-49 win over host FIU to open play at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon.
Myka Cromwell and
Alona Blackwell chipped in with eight and seven points respectively while
Breanne Beatty scored a career-high six points.
Terry also dished out six assists along with two each from
Brianna Breedy and Cromwell as Oakland posted 14 total assists on 23 made baskets.
The Golden Grizzlies turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter holding FIU to only eight points to build a 19 point lead at 50-31.
However, FIU would not go away as the Panthers used an 18-5 run to cut the lead to five points at 55-49 with 1:14 to play. Terry hit three big free throws down the stretch while FIU missed their last two 3-point attempts over the final 30 seconds. For the game, Oakland held FIU to just 1-for-10 from behind the arc.
After leading FIU 16-11 after the first quarter, Oakland opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run to move ahead 26-12. The Golden Grizzlies added another 10 points capped off by a running 3-point buzzer beater off the glass by Terry to close out the second half sending Oakland into the locker room with a 36-21 lead.
Oakland closes out FIU Thanksgiving Classic play against Jacksonville State on Sunday, Dec. 1 at noon.
