
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Mikey Ketteman and
Carson Debison-Larabie each scored late second-half goals sparking a rally that came up short as Oakland (5-4-2) fell, 3-2, to visiting Western Michigan (7-4) on Wednesday night.
Trailing 3-0 late in the second half, WMU failed to clear a lose ball that ended up on the left foot of Ketteman who fired a bending shot the upper right corner of the net getting Oakland on the board in the 82nd minute.
In the 85th minute, WMU goalkeeper Isaac Walker came off his line to punch out a deep entry ball inside the box. However, the punched ball ended up going to directly to Debison-Larabie who shielded a defender, took a touch and flicked the ball into a wide open net for his first career goal cutting the deficit to 3-2. The Golden Grizzlies continued to press but could not get the equalizer in the closing minutes.
WMU jumped out to 1-0 lead just 1:27 into the game off a free kick set piece. The Broncos then added two more goals to take a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.
Oakland resumes league play with a Homecoming showdown against IUPUI on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
