ROCHESTER, Mich. --
Jamie Walling recorded 23 kills, hitting .340, and seven blocks as the Oakland volleyball team handed Milwaukee its first league loss of the season and snapped the Panthers' NCAA-leading 15-game winning streak in a five set thriller Sunday at the O'rena.
With her 23 kills, Walling now has four matches with 20 kills or more on the season. Coming into 2019, she had four in her career.
Brittany Welch recorded 18 kills and 16 digs, plus two blocks, while
Taylor Dellinger added 15 kills.
Lindsay Wightman led the way defensively with 24 digs while
Kenzie Dunn recorded a career high 22 digs in addition to matching her career best with 29 assists.
Haley Brown and
AnnaBelle Tomei added 14 and 10 digs respectively.
After both teams split the first two sets, the theatrics began late in the third set as the Golden Grizzlies found themselves down 24-21. Oakland went on to score the next five consecutive points to come out with a dramatic 26-24 win.
The excitement continued as Oakland once again found itself trailing Milwaukee (18-2, 5-1) in the final set, 12-10. The Golden Grizzlies rallied again and out-scored the Panthers 5-1 to earn a 15-13 win.
Oakland (10-8, 3-3) will take its three-game winning streak on the road next weekend beginning with a match at Cleveland State Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.
