Tray Maddox Jr. recorded a career high 21 points, four assists, and four three-pointers as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to IUPUI 73-71 on the road Thursday. Maddox Jr. notched his first career 20-point game.
Xavier Hill-Mais notched his first career double-double by recording 11 points and a career high 11 rebounds.
Jaevin Cumberland scored 18 points and hit four treys, plus grabbed four rebounds.
Brad Brechting added 10 points and five rebounds while
Braden Norris recorded a career high five steals and added seven points.
Oakland (9-12, 5-3 HL) held IUPUI (12-9, 4-4 HL) to just 25 percent shooting from three-point range (3 of 12) in the first half and forced 10 IUPUI turnovers, scoring 15 points off those turnovers. The Golden Grizzlies led at halftime 32-26.
Both teams pulled down season highs on the offensive glass as Oakland recorded 15 offensive boards and the Jaguars grabbed 18. The Jaguars went on a 12-0 run with 8:51 in the second half and looked like they would pull away. However, Oakland countered with a 10-2 run late in the game with 2:05 left to play.

Stan Scott got the steal with 18 seconds remaining, but Oakland could not convert offensively. The Jaguars made three free throws from D.J. McCall and Camron Justice to take a five-point lead with three seconds on the clock to seal the win.
The Golden Grizzlies will stay on the road by traveling to UIC Saturday, Jan. 26. Tip time is scheduled for 4:12 E.T.
