ROCHESTER, Mich. - Corentin Diverres scored his second goal of the season as Oakland dropped its first game of the season with a 4-1 setback to visiting UIC in the Horizon League opener on Saturday at the Oakland Soccer Field.
After UIC jumped to an early 1-0 just 1:01 into the game,
Sullivan Lauderdale made a diving penalty kick save at the 3:36 mark to prevent a two-goal advantage. However, the Flames capitalized off a failed clear attempt in the fifth minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Diverres cut the lead to 2-1 after taking the ball off a turnover and firing a shot into the net from eight yards out.
UIC added two more goals in the second half en route to the win.
Oakland travels to No. 3 Michigan State on Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
