After surrendering an early goal in the third minute off an penalty kick, Oakland drew even in the 18th minute off a corner kick set piece started by Evan Sawula to Barry for a feed over to Moore who connected on his second goal of the season.

After MSU regained the lead in the 31st minute, the Golden Grizzlies once again responded with the equalizer at 2-2 as Popovic scored his team-leading third goal of the season off a long shot from a deflection in the 72nd minute of the second half.

However, the Spartans got the game-winning goal in the 76th minute and added another insurance goal late in the 84th minute.
