DETROIT - It was quite the homecoming for Detroit native
Dylan Borczak as he scored the game-winning goal with just 43 seconds left in overtime giving Oakland a 1-0 Metro Series win at arch-rival Detroit Mercy on Saturday at Titan Field. The Golden Grizzlies are now a perfect 4-0-1 against the Titans since the inception of the Metro Series in 2014.
Sullivan Lauderdale picked up his first shutout of the season making two saves.
Borczak took a pass from
Travis Harrington on the deep right side, knifed through two UDM defenders, and ripped a shot in the upper left corner of the goal to give Oakland its first Horizon League win of the season.
The game was a defensive battle throughout regulation in which both teams only had a combined five total shots on goal.
AJ Shaw made a game-saving play in overtime as UDM's Jake Reitzloff got pass Lauderdale just in front of the right goal post and looked to shoot into a wide open net but Shaw made a sliding tackle knocking the ball away keeping the game scoreless.
Oakland returns home to host Dayton on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
