ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's soccer team opens Horizon League play with a huge showdown against two-time defending league champion UIC on Saturday, Sept. 8 beginning noon at the Oakland Soccer Field.

Notes:
- UIC won the last season's meeting 1-0 while Oakland rolled to a 5-2 win on Senior Night during the 2016 season. The Flames have won the league tournament the last two consecutive seasons defeating the No. 1 seed each time in the championship game to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

- The Golden Grizzlies are unbeaten on the season at 3-0-1 and currently sit at No. 20 in the latest Top Drawer Soccer.com Top-25 National Ranking. Oakland also received six votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll and ranks No. 7 in the North Region Poll (consisting of just schools in the Big Ten, MAC and Horizon League conferences) and also received votes in the College Soccer News Top-30 National Poll.

- Noah Jensen was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the period ending Sept. 2 and also was named Nike Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after helping Oakland to a perfect 3-0 road record for the week from his defensive midfield position including a 2-0 mark at the Hampton Inn at Loyola Chicago Classic in which the Golden Grizzlies allowed only two total goals in wins at DePaul and Loyola. Offensively, he also scored a goal off a penalty kick and recorded an assist in the 6-1 win over the Ramblers and was named All-Tournament Team MVP.

- The 6-1 thumping of Loyola (9/2) marked the first time Oakland has scored six goals in a match since defeating Valparaiso, 6-0, on Oct. 25, 2003.

- During Oakland's three road wins over Marshall (8/27), DePaul (8/31) and Loyola, nine different players scored goals led by Nebojsa Popovic (2G, 3A – 7 pts.) followed by Travis Harrington (2G, 2A – 6 pts.), Corentin Diverres (1G, 2A – 3 pts.), Jensen (1G, 1A – 3 pts.), Evan Sawula (1G, 1A – 3 pts.), Dawsun Schrum (1G, - 2 pts.), Napoleon Outlaw III (1G, - 2 pts.), Spencer Nolff (1G, - 2 pts.) and Jacob Moore (1G, - 2 pts.).
