OAKLAND RESUMES LEAGUE PLAY AT IUPUI

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's soccer team resumes Horizon League play at IUPUI on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast live from the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on ESPN+.
 
Notes:
- The last time out, Evan Sawula celebrated his birthday in style scoring the game-winning goal propelling Oakland to a 2-0 win over visiting Duquesne (9/22).
 
- Napoleon Outlaw III scored his third goal of the season connecting on a second half equalizer helping Oakland to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Dayton (9/18). This marks the second time Outlaw III has scored a goal to force overtime. In the season opening 1-1 draw against Western Illinois (8/24), he scored his first career goal in dramatic fashion with just 29 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
 
- The Golden Grizzlies are 1-0-2 in overtime games this season.
 
- As a team, Oakland is tied for third in the conference in assists (17), ranks fourth in goals (19) and points (55) and fifth in saves (37).
 
- Individually, Nebojsa Popovic leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference in assists (6) and 10th in points (10) while Travis Harrington is tied for eighth in assists (3). Sullivan Lauderdale is tied for third in shutouts (2) and ranks fourth in saves (34).
 
- Oakland snapped a two-game skid in thrilling fashion as Detroit native Dylan Borczak scored the game-winning goal with just 43 seconds left in overtime giving Oakland a 1-0 Metro Series win at arch-rival Detroit Mercy (9/15) for its first Horizon League win of the season.
 
- The Golden Grizzles dropped a hard-fought battle at #3 Michigan State, 4-2, (9/10). Popovic recorded assists on both goals while Evan Sawula and Alfa Barry had an assist each. Jacob Moore scored his second goal of the season while Luke Morrell scored his first career goal off a deflected shot.
 
- Oakland opened Horizon League play with its first loss of the season against two-time defending champion UIC, 4-1, (Sept 8) in which Corentin Diverres scored his second goal of the season.
 
- Prior to the loss to UIC, the Golden Grizzlies were No. 20 in the Top Drawer Soccer.com Top-25 National Ranking. Oakland also received six votes in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll and ranked No. 7 in the North Region Poll (consisting of just schools in the Big Ten, MAC and Horizon League conferences) and also received votes in the College Soccer News Top-30 National Poll.
 
- Noah Jensen was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the period ending Sept. 2 and also was named Nike Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week after helping Oakland to a perfect 3-0 road record for the week from his defensive midfield position including a 2-0 mark at the Hampton Inn at Loyola Chicago Classic in which the Golden Grizzlies allowed only two total goals in wins at DePaul and Loyola. Offensively, he also scored a goal off a penalty kick and recorded an assist in the 6-1 win over the Ramblers and was named All-Tournament Team MVP.
 
- The 6-1 thumping of Loyola (9/2) marked the first time Oakland has scored six goals in a match since defeating Valparaiso, 6-0, on Oct. 25, 2003.
 
- During Oakland's three road wins over Marshall (8/27), DePaul (8/32) and Loyola, nine different players scored goals led by Nebojsa Popovic (2G, 3A – 7 pts.) followed by Travis Harrington (2G, 2A – 6 pts.), Corentin Diverres (1G, 2A – 3 pts.), Jensen (1G, 1A – 3 pts.), Evan Sawula (1G, 1A – 3 pts.), Dawsun Schrum (1G, - 2 pts.), Napoleon Outlaw III (1G, - 2 pts.), Spencer Nolff (1G, - 2 pts.) and Jacob Moore (1G, - 2 pts.). A.J Shaw also added an assist for a point.
 
- Oakland picked up its first win of the season rallying with three second-half goals to defeat Marshall, 3-2, on the road (8/27). Dawsun Schrum scored his first career goal to tie the game at 1-1 followed by Outlaw III's second consecutive goal. Jacob Moore tallied the game-winner in the 81st minute while Popovic and Harrington each added two assists while Diverres added his first assist in a Golden Grizzly uniform.
 
-Oakland was picked to finish sixth in the 2018 Horizon League Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office and voted on by the league's nine head coaches. The Golden Grizzlies earned 40 points.
 
- This season, the Golden Grizzlies have a diverse group of 11 newcomers which includes four international student-athletes in Alfa Barry (Paris, France), Dorian Barberio (Guebwiller, France), Alabama-Huntsville transfer Corentin Diverres (Guidel, France) and Hartwick College transfer Elliott Bentley (Oakham, England) along with three additional transfers in Dylan Borczak (Detroit, Mich. - Schoolcraft College), Vince Manzo (Washington, Mich. - Villanova) and Cameron McNeil (Rochester Hills, Mich. - Marshall). Freshman Luke Morrell (Plainwell, Mich.), Dawsun Schrum (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Michael Teller (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Cameron Wilde (Shelby Township, Mich.) round out the class.
