UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies Track and Field team recorded seven first place finishes at the Saginaw Valley 2018 Holiday Open, sending them home for the holidays in good spirits.
Chanel Gardner placed first in the 400m with a time of 58.26 and also placed fifth in the 200m with a time of 25.79. Cassidy Newburg placed third in the 400m with a time of 59.14.
Rachel Levy won the 5000m with a time of 16:48.87, making it her second straight distance win. Last weekend she took first in the one-mile. In addition, Marisa Papadelis placed third in the 3000m (11:09.42).
Olivia Kane and
Dana Tessmer finished second (11 ft., 11.25 in.) and fourth (11 ft., 5.25 in.) respectively in the pole vault while Paige Sanders finished fourth in the long jump by a mark of 17 ft., 4.75 in.
Rounding out the field events was
Gabby Cyriax who placed first in the women's weight throw with a toss of 53 ft., 10 in.
On the men's side,
Andrew Storm placed first in the long jump by a mark of 22 ft., 11.75 in. Storm also placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.39) while
Marcus Nellum placed fifth (8.59).
Chase VanSickle and Alex Hugh-Plott finished second (6 ft., 6 in.) and third (6 ft., 4.75 in.) in the men's high jump while Kenton Rivard took home first in the weight throw with a toss of 53 ft., 1 in. In addition, Rivard placed runner up in shot put by a mark of 49 ft., 11.75 in., while
Kyle Piotrovsky came in third with a toss of 49 ft., 10.5 in.
Jimmie Williams placed first in the 400m (48.19) and was also a part of the 4x400m men's first place relay team of
Corey Goodloe,
Marcus Nellum and
Andrew Storm who recorded a time of 3:19.39.
On the distance side,
Connor Wuori placed second in the 3000m with a time of 8:58.33 and
Austin Dawn placed third in the one-mile with a mark of 4:31.39.
To round out the weekend of competition,
Zach Stadnika placed runner up in the heptathlon with a total of 5068 points.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to competition Jan. 5 at Western Michigan University.
