NORRIS POURS IN 18 AS OAKLAND FALLS TO EIGHTH-RANKED SPARTANS

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Braden Norris hit a career high six three-pointers and matched a career best 18 points as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to No. 8 Michigan State 99-69 Friday night at the Breslin Center. 

Xavier Hill-Mais scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists, while Jaevin Cumberland added 13 points and shot 4 of 6 from three-point range, plus hauled in five rebounds.

Karmari Newman scored all of his 11 points in the second half including shooting 3 of 4 from three-point range.

Norris hit a step-back three-pointer as time expired as the Spartans led 45-32 at the half. The Golden Grizzlies returned in the second half and shot 67 percent (8 of 12) from three-point range, cutting the MSU lead down to 11 with 13:10 left in regulation. Michigan State went on a 33-15 run in the final 9:20 to close out the game.

Oakland, which came into the contest ranking second in the NCAA in assists, recorded just 11 tonight. The Spartans also capitalized by outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 47-6 in fast break points.

Oakland will begin Horizon League play on Dec. 28 by traveling to Cleveland State at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
