WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Jaevin Cumberland scored 26 points on a career high 7 of 12 shooting from three-point range, plus dished out six assists as the Oakland men's basketball team dropped a road game to Hartford 87-82 Sunday at Chase Arena.

Cumberland, who recorded his third career 20-point game, was 8 of 15 overall from the floor and his eight field goals are also a career best.

Braden Norris recorded a career high four steals and four rebounds plus dished out nine assists. The freshman guard scored 11 points and hit three treys.

Tray Maddox Jr. scored a career high nine points, shooting a career best 3 of 3 from three-point range, while Xavier Hill-Mais matched a career high with nine rebounds.

Karmari Newman added 12 points on four three-pointers and grabbed three rebounds.

Oakland, which made a season high 18 three-pointers, came out hot by shooting 61 percent from the three-point line as 11 of its 15 first-half field goals came from beyond the arc. The 18 three-pointers made by Oakland is tied for the second most threes made in a single game in Oakland history and most made since 1996.

The Golden Grizzlies held Hartford to just 1 of 7 shooting from the three-point line (14 percent) in the first half and trailed by just one point, 45-44. However, the Hawks came out in the second half and shot 54 percent (7 of 13) from three-point range.

Oakland was able to take back the lead in its first possession of the second half with a Hill-Mais layup, 46-45. Hartford regained the lead on its next possession and never surrendered it the remainder of the game.

Up next for the Golden Grizzlies will be SEC foe Georgia as the two teams meet Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in Athens.
