June 28, 2016 ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's golf team has been having a very productive summer since earning its second consecutive runner-up finish at the Horizon League Championship in April.
Summer Highlights
â-ª Recent graduate Evan Bowser has won three amateur tournaments since finishing his career at Oakland as the all-time stroke leader. The Dearborn, Mich. native won the Horton Smith Championship on May 7 by three strokes including totaling two sub-70 rounds. He also won the Michigan Publinx Medal Play Championship at Pheasant Run Golf Club by five strokes. Bowser earned a tie for fifth place at the Michigan Open Championship at Prestwick Village Golf Club with a 6-under-par 282. At the 105th Michigan Amateur Championship from Eagle Eye Golf Club, he shot 73-70 to qualify for match play where he fell in the second round.
â-ª Jake Kneen finished 12th at the Michigan Open Championship with a final score of 285 (-3), including a 3-under-par 69 in the final round. The All-Horizon League selection also earned a top-5 place at the Michigan Publinx Medal Play Championship. During the Michigan Amateur Championship, he qualified for match play and advanced to the final 16 before falling in 19 holes to the championships runner-up.
â-ª The reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Marc Norton, won the Leinster Youths Championship by one shot at Esker Hills in Ireland after posting a final round 67.
â-ª Jacob Johnson made the cut at the Michigan Open highlighted by a third round 74 (+2) and also qualified for match play at the Michigan Amateur Championship.
