INCOMING FRESHMAN HOBLER SELECTED TO U.S. JUNIOR NATIONAL TEAM

June 2, 2016

Gameday

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University volleyball incoming freshman Megan Hobler has been selected to the USA Volleyball A1 Junior National Training Team. The selection places her among the top 46 players that participated in 32 open tryouts around the country that ranged between February and April. In 2015, Hobler made the Continental Team, one tier below her current placement.

"I am very excited for Megan to earn a position on the A1 Team," said Oakland volleyball coach Rob Beam. "It is a well deserved honor and it will be an outstanding experience for her to compete alongside the best players in her age group in our country. She is a player that has big time potential and our entire staff is looking forward to helping her develop as a student-athlete beginning in August."

USA Volleyball High Performance Women's Junior A1 National Training Team Program is designed to train and expose athletes with the highest potential for international competition. It is the premier domestic program for Youth age athletes and an essential training piece of the National Athlete Pipeline. In addition to the training and competition within the program, athletes will receive a number of volleyball-specific classroom sessions. The training takes place from July 14-24 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and will consist of five days of training followed by five days of competition against opposing international teams, top Region HP teams, and other USAV High Performance teams.

"For our program this is a significant moment as well," said Beam. "Previously, Amanda Baker as a senior in high school competed on the USA Continental Team in 2012, and this past winter Jessica Dood was named as an alternate for one of the USA Collegiate National Teams. However, Megan is our first player to reach this level of placement with USA Volleyball and I think it speaks to the development of our program as well as the bright future here at Oakland."

Hobler, a Rochester, N.Y. native, was an All-Greater Rochester honorable mention selection while being a member of the Class AA State runner-up team at Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women. She was also named to American Volleyball Coaches Association Under Armour Watch List.
