HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Fiona Schmidt and Maddelyn Zack each shot a final round score of 80 (+8) finishing sixth and tied for 10th respectively to help lead the Oakland women's golf team to its first ever conference title in program history at the 2016 Horizon League Championship held at the Mission Inn Resort (par 72, 6,026 yards). Schmidt collected a three-day score of 234 (+18), a career best and tied for the eighth lowest conference championship score in program history, while Zack's score of 239 (+23) ties a career best. The Golden Grizzlies collected a three-day score of 944 (+80) to edge out Northern Kentucky by three strokes.
The Oakland women's golf team will host a watch party at the Red Ox to learn what site it will travel to for the NCAA Regional Championship Monday, April 25 at 6 p.m. ET. The selection show will be aired on the Golf Channel and streamed live on the Golf Channel website.
The four regional sites include Stanford Golf Course, in Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University; Traditions Club, in Bryan, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M University; University Club, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, hosted by LSU; and Shoal Creek Club, in Shoal Creek, Alabama, hosted by the University of Alabama. The regional championship will take place May 5-7.
