OAKLAND SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES 2016 SCHEDULE

Jan. 8, 2016

2016 Schedule

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University softball team has announced their schedule for the 2016 season, which includes early-season tournaments at USC Upstate, Florida Gulf Coast, Elon, and Mercer before opening conference play in March.

Head coach Connie Miner spoke glowingly about the early season schedule:

"We are very excited for the schedule we have put together for this season. We are traveling to all new tournaments down south with the exception of one. We will be facing post season and regionally ranked teams which will help us prepare for our Horizon League campaign. This schedule will be a challenging pre-season for us and a great experience for our young team to learn and grow from and still have success."

Oakland opens their season on Feb. 19 against Kent State at the USC Upstate Invitational, where they will play four games over the course of two days. After the trip to South Carolina, the season continues with three more tournament trips down south over the course of February and March, where they will play 14 games total.

The Golden Grizzlies begin their conference title defense with a three game series at Northern Kentucky starting on March 25. Their first home series of the season is set to be played on April 1 and 2 against the Penguins of Youngstown State.

Oakland's three-game Metro Series matchup with Detroit will be played at home on April 18 and 19. The Golden Grizzlies then travel to Wright State in a three-game rematch of the 2015 Horizon League Championship game. From there, they continue conference play until a late-season doubleheader at Eastern Michigan on May 3.

The regular season concludes the first weekend in May with a three-game series against UIC at the Oakland Softball Field. Oakland will seek to repeat as Horizon League tournament champions when this season's tournament begins on May 11.
