"The season ended on a great note with Evan shooting a 3-under-par 33 on his second nine," said coach Mark Engel. "It was a great tournament on an excellent golf course which is why we want our entire team competing at the NCAA Regional next year."
Bowser began the day on the 10th hole and shot a 41 in his first nine holes, but finished his final nine holes in 3-under-par to close the final round with a 74. He collected four birdies in the final round, the most birdies in a single round by Bowser in the tournament.
Illinois's Brian Campbell earned medalist honors at the NCAA Regional posting the best round of the tournament with a 7-under-par 65. Illinois and SMU tied as team champions with identical scores of 860. Both teams, along with UNLV, UCLA and Oregon will advance to the NCAA Nationals in Florida May 29-June 3. Virigia Tech's Scott Vincent finished fourth with a 211 (-5) and will advance to the NCAA Nationals as an individual.
Bowser ends his season as one of the most successful in program history. He earned a spot in the NCAA Regional after winning the Horizon League Championship, becoming just the fourth player at Oakland to win the league tournament. He also broke PGA Tour professional's Brian Stuard career stroke-average record and most rounds under-par in a career.
